In the footsteps of the Kings (and Emperors) of the North

Day 1 (staring York). a choice of Whitby via the North york moors, of Durham and Beamish museum, overnight alnwick, Warkworth or Durham castle if possible day 2 journey along Hadrians wall taking in Vindolanda and Housteads fort, with an optinal walk from steel rigg to Sycamore gap . A stop at Cragside to take in the house, gardens or both might also be included. overnight Alnwick/Warkworth Day 3 The Northumberland castles, including Lindisfarne (castle and ruined priory on a tidal island), Bamburgh, seat of the northumbrian Kings from the 5th century, Dunstanburgh castle, Alnwick castle (used for hogwarts in Harry potter) Warkworth castle. Optional trip to the Farne islands (additional cost) for seals, sea birds and early christian history. Finish at Berwick (for train to London/Edinburgh etc) or Lindisfarne for overnight (independent transfer the next day perhaps? The routes for days 2 and 3 can be reversed to finish in Carlisle (for train services or on to the Lake district)
