The centre of York is beautiful and home to countless fascinating historical and more modern landmarks. However, there is also much to see away from the city centre. The suburbs and countryside around the city are home to many hidden gems that many visitors never see. On this walk you will follow the River Foss, York's 'other' river, from the villages outside the city through fields and suburbs, all the way to the Foss Barrier and the river's confluence with the River Ouse. Along the way we pass beautiful landscapes, follow riverside paths and pass through villages such as New Earswick, originally designed as a model village by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. As we approach the centre of the city we experience aspects of York's industrial heritage, notably the former Rowntree's chocolate factory (now Nestle).
• Meet: Outside Sainsbury's Local in Haxby • Lock House Weir • Earswick • All Saints Church • New Earswick model village • Bootham Stray & Nestle • City Centre and the Foss Barrier (flood defences) • Finish: Tower Gardens All my tours can be customized upon request
