This private half-day tour will introduce you to the historic towns of Windsor and Eton. William the Conqueror first built a fortress here in the 11th century after he defeated King Harold at the Battle of Hastings. Over the following centuries, successive monarchs extended and enlarged the fortress and turned it into the magnificent royal castle and palace that you see today. I will meet you in the centre of Windsor from where we will take an easy 5 minute walk to the castle. There we will spend a couple of hours exploring the largest and longest continuously inhabited royal castle in the world. Highlights include the magnificent State Apartments and Queen Mary's Dolls' House. Depending on the day and time of visit we will also explore St George's Chapel, which is where we'll see the burial places of Queen Elizabeth II and King Henry VIII amongst many others. On certain days we could also watch the Changing of the Guard. We will then explore the highlights of the towns of Windsor and Eton.
I will meet you outside Windsor Royal Station and we will make our way on foot to Windsor Castle. Once we've passed through security we'll spend a couple of hours or so exploring the magnificent castle and marvelling at its fabulous collections of furniture, artworks and the amazing architecture of the State Apartments. Depending on the day we will also explore St George's Chapel. Please note this is only open Monday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We will then leave the castle and spend time exploring the delightful town of Windsor before heading across the River Thames to discover the historic town of Eton and its world famous College. We will then head back into the centre of Windsor where our tour will end.
