Half day private tour of St Paul's Cathedral and the City of London churches of Sir Christopher Wren

Come and explore the legacy of Sir Christopher Wren.

Christopher Wren's masterpiece is St Paul's Cathedral, complete with its dome. He was an inventor, scientist, mathematician, astronomer and architect. Our tour will include the American chapel and a view of Wren's tomb and commemorative sculptures of significant Britons.

And if the cathedral is his masterpiece, the many churches in the City of London he re-designed after the City's Great Fire of 1666 each add an individual jewel to his crowning glory. That there are so many churches in such a confined area is unique and you might wonder how the guide can find them all ! I have my favourites. . . . . . you can form your own views from the huge choice of wonderful church designs!

The tour is best taken Monday to Friday when City churches are open for internal visits. They are unlikely to be open for visiting on Saturday or Sunday

2023 marks the tercentenary of the death of one of the greatest ever British architects - Sir Christopher Wren. His impact on the City of London's layout and buildings following the Great Fire of London in 1666 is still very visible today and impacts the future development of City buildings.

He rebuilt 51 churches following the Fire plus his masterpiece, St. Paul's Cathedral.

This walk centres on St Paul's (although we do not go inside) but will visit several of his buildings, exploring the inside of three of his churches. We touch on Wren's other roles as scientist and astronomer and discuss some of the work of his colleagues/pupils.

After the Great Fire of London, Sir Christopher Wren (1632-1723) rebuilt 51 churches. On this guided tour you'll see some of his finest places of worship.

St Stephen's Walbrook has been described as one of the top ten buildings in the UK. It's dome anticipates Wren's masterpiece in St Paul's Cathedral.

On the walk we'll see very many of the churches still in use and some now used as residences and offices.
The incredible legacy has shaped the city and left its hall mark for over 400 years.

We'll also look at the Temple Bar, Chapter House and some new streets he created.
