On this leisurely full day exploration you'll learn about Oxford's Anglo Saxon origins, how the University came about and its relationship with the town and its colleges today. Through the architectural environment and impressive sites exterior and interior to the colleges you'll discover the stories behind Oxford of the Reformation, English Civil War, Restoration, Georgian period and Gothic revival of 19th century Oxford. Architectural highlights include Radcliffe Square, Old Bodleian Schools, Divinity School, Sir Christopher Wren's Sheldonian Theatre and the University Church of St Mary the Virgin. As an accredited, experienced, and enthusiastic guide, I look forward to bringing the city’s history to life for you. This tour is fully customisable to fit your interests and schedule. Specific colleges, sites, and film locations can be included in the tailored experience. The day includes a visit inside an Oxford University medieval college and an official tour inside the Bodleian Library.
We begin at the Martyrs' Memorial, before heading to the Anglo-Saxon Tower, Oxford’s oldest structure. On Turl Street, we pass Exeter, Jesus, and Lincoln Colleges, and uncover the university’s origins at Balliol. At St. Mary’s Church, we explore the Oxford Movement and C.S. Lewis’s inspirations. On Radcliffe Square, we admire the Radcliffe Camera and glimpse All Souls College. After visiting the Bodleian’s Schools Quadrangle, we enter the Divinity School, a medieval gem featured in Harry Potter. We pass under the Bridge of Sighs and by Wren’s Sheldonian Theatre. After lunch, we step into a college chapel, then explore Queen’s Lane, with The Queen’s College, Univ, and Teddy Hall. Finally, we visit New College and end at Wadham, Keble College, and the Natural History Museum.
