The cathedral is the smallest medieval cathedral in Britain and a sensational example of Oxford splendour. Founded in the era of Henry VIII, in fact the pedigree of the site stretches back to the princess and saint who founded a priory here before the Norman Conquest. Thomas Wolsey's famous dining hall hosted Elizabeth I, Charles I 's parliament during the English Civil War, and latterly inspired JK Rowling in the creation of Harry Potter's famous school. Christchurch Alumni include CS Lewis, John Locke and 30 prime ministers including. Adorned with architecture and applied arts discover how Christ Church has inspired literarature and cinema. Christ Church memorial garden - opened to the public after WWI Christ Church Meadow - where Lewis Carroll where Lewis Carroll set off with Alice Liddell. Bodley Tower - Location of Harry Potter's arrival at Hogwarts. The splendid refectory Hall built by the 'disgraced' Thomas Wolsey.
