Overview of your London tour:

The Square Mile is often neglected by visitors. I think this is a shame as the City of London is packed with fascinating sights and history and is a great mix of the old and the new sitting comfortably side by side. I will guide you through this historic environment and show you the less well-known areas and tell you stories of it's past, present and future - including how the expressions 'so quiet you could hear a pin drop' and 'keep it under your hat' originated. For example we'll see the atmospheric alleys where many of the great institutions started in the equivalent of Starbucks today. We'll hear about one man who over 350 years ago, valued his cheese so much he buried it to save it from the Great Fire! We will see some iconic modern buildings together with ancient churches and even a reconstruction of the Roman Amphitheatre! We will have the chance to climb to the top of the Monument to the Great Fire and step inside the stunning medieval Guildhall - a site that even many Londoners have not seen.

Your London tour itinerary

This tour will take you through all that the City of London has to offer. We will wander through the old alley ways where many of the great financial institutions were founded in the popular coffee houses of the time as well as visiting grand buildings of the past and present. The exact route can be flexible to meet your needs and typically we will see: * St Paul's Cathedral (optional tour inside - add abut an hour) * Guildhall - ancient seat of the government of the City * Roman London - the amphitheatre and Temple of Mithras * Financial Centre - so-called 'skyscraper alley' where tall modern buildings are sited next to medieval churches * St Stephen's church - to see the magnificent interior of Sir Christopher Wren * The Monument to the Great Fire - with an opportunity to climb to the top! * The Garden at 120 - in my opinion the best view of the City This tour as a whole or partially, can be customized to fit your preferences - please inquire!
