We'll look at the history of printing, see some amazing very old pubs and discuss London's original blogger Samuel Pepys. Called the Street of Shame, there's more to this road between the City of London and the City of Westminster than its newspaper heritage. We will follow the trail left by monks and monarchs, press barons and literary giants along the highway and down its twisting alleyways.
We will see a range of ancient pubs in the area where the great Fire of London finished and buildings which survived narrow lanes south of St Paul's Cathedral, learn about the important Blackfriars' Monastery and come across a 17th century livery hall and discuss the Bridewell Palace and Hospital and the infamous Fleet Prison where the man who created King Kong once sold newspapers and admire the spire of Christopher Wren's St Bride's Church, the inspiration for wedding cakes the amazing 1930s newspaper buildings of the Daily Express and Daily Telegraph where Samuel Pepys was born - the man whose famous diary has left us with a unique insight into 17th century life and Explore the secret courtyard where Samuel Johnson lived with his cat Hodge and Discover another hidden place of worship, the Whitefriars Priory and Find out all about the infamous Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street in a dismal sinister courtyard
