As the official guide of the "Mayfair Art Weekend", the association of the Mayfair galleries, on this tour I'll curate a selection of the best contemporary and fine art galleries for you, in this chic, exclusive area. A longer 3 hours tour would also include St James's area, at walking distance to Mayfair, which has become part of the aforementioned association. We will start from the Royal Academy of Arts, founded in 1768, the oldest and most prestigious post-graduate art school in the UK. During the tour, I'll share unique stories of art, artists and the art market in general and I'll also tell you about the architecture and the fascinating history of the area, that started as an annual fair in May 1686! This private walking tour lasts 2 hours in a standard duration, but could also go up to 3 hours based on your interests. Galleries truly are all very close from one another and their shows vary during the year, so each tour will really be unique for you! The following itinerary can be customised:
·We will meet up in front of the Royal Academy of Arts, Piccadilly. We will visit it by walking across it, finishing on its other side: on Burlington Gardens. ·From there, we will enter a couple of contemporary art galleries in Savile Row, famous for its array of high-end bespoke tailor shops. ·Later, will have a break in a nice cafe' in Savile Row, called The Service (optional stop). ·We will then visit some other galleries scattered along the following streets within Mayfair: -Old Burlington St -Cork St -Albemarle St -Old Bond St -Dover St -Berkley St *This would depend on the displays being held. ·If you opted for the 3 hours tour, then we will extend to St James' galleries, which is at walking distance. *Both the standard 2 hour tour, and the 3 hour tour would end at Green Park subway station. Please note that galleries are closed on Sundays and most of them are also closed to the public on Mondays. Best days for this tour are Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 11am-6pm.
