My Amazon book "A Visitor's guide to Whitechapel" is a great background read. We start at Aldgate in the Roman wall. During the tour we visit : Chaucer, the Reformation, Jack the Ripper, Synagogues large and small, Ashkenazi and Sephardi. We visit the site of the Houndsditch robbery, and sites of worship used by Huguenot, Methodist, Jewish and Islamic faiths. The area is very lively and we see the birthplaces of some unlikely characters. Spitalfields market offers many delights and it's likely we'll end up enjoying some of them. We also see the scene of an old monastery and Jack the Ripper's first murder. My family arrived in this area as immigrants and we'll see the house where my grandfather lived in 1911. We also take in the street art by some of the world's leading street artists and see some amazing old alleys untouched by the wars and the finest Georgian shop front in London.
