Camden Town has been my home for 33 years - I love the quirkiness and creativity of this place! Its market draws in 100, 000 tourists every weekend (which makes it the fourth most popular visitor attraction in London), offering everything from clothing, unique art and jewellery. Its food stalls offer delicacies from all over the world, against a unique backdrop of 19th cent. stables and warehouses. A real mecca for music lovers, its many music venues have seen the likes of The Doors, Pink Floyd and Jimi Hendrix, and of course, local singer Amy Winehouse. After all this excitement we'll need change of pace: after a short stroll along the peaceful Regent's Canal and a spot of lunch, we explore charming and historic Primrose Hill, one of London's prettiest "urban villages", and its magnificent park: from the top of the hill you can enjoy clear views of London's skyline. The area, with its continental cafés and independent shops, has been and still is a highly desirable place to live among the rich and famous.
Camden highlights: -The Roundhouse, a Victorian railway building turned music venue, where the "who is who" of music has performed since the 60s -Camden Lock - its iconic bridge and traditional canal locks -The world-famous Market, where you can find the quirkiest souvenirs in London in its underground "catacombs" and maze of cobbled alleyways -The old Stables and Amy Winehouse statue Primrose Hill highlights: -The amazing view from the top of the Hill (and hear how this park, from Henry VIII's hunting ground, has become one of London's favourite open spaces) -Chalcot Square and Crescent, with their pastel-coloured houses (spot the home of Paddington Bear!) -The houses and plaques of many famous residents, from the authors Sylvia Plath and WB Yeats to the philosopher Friedrich Engels -Primrose Hill Studios, a secluded artist enclave -Its high street, with charming independent restaurants and boutiques (feels like Notting Hill but without all the tourists piling down Portobello Road!)
