Overview of your Keswick tour:

This tour is designed to extend your stay in the English Lake district with this 3 day tour to see some other parts of Northern England including (in my view) England loveliest city, Durham, and Englands most impressive region, Northumberland, before finishing in York a variety of landscapes and historical sites from Roman, Early Christian, Medieval and victorian england in 3 full days

Your Keswick tour itinerary

Day 1 (staring Carlisle). A journey along Hadrians wall taking in Vindolanda and Housteads fort, with an optinal walk from steel rigg to Sycamore gap (quite strenous 30-40 minutes each way) or a vsist to Lannercost Priory. A stop at Cragside to take in the house, gardens or both might also be included. A brief stop at Edlingham castle and church is also possible. overnight Alnwick, Alnmouth or Warkworth Day 2 (from carlisle - if starting from Berwick, days 1 and 2 are reversed) The Northumberland castles, including Lindisfarne (castle and ruined priory on a tidal island), Bamburgh, seat of the northumbrian Kings from the 5th century, Dunstanburgh castle, Alnwick castle (used for hogwarts in Harry potter) Warkworth castle. Day 3 (day 1 from York) . From Alnwick to either 1. Beamish, a living history museum for a look at what life was like in 18th, 19th and early 20th century Britain then Durham. . OR whitby (Dracula, Captain Cook, Kippers) via the north york moors (including more harry potter) to York

Transport is provided between the locations of the tour at no cost. The vehicles I generally use are a Nissan Qashqai, for 2 adults and 1 or 2 children, or a Ford tourneo connect which will seat 4 adults and 2 large children or small adults.

  • Other: Personal expenses. • Entrance to sites, including Vindolanda, Housteads, Cragside, Alnwick castle and garden, Lindisfarne castle, Lindisfarne priory, Warkworth castle, Beamish museum, Whitby abbey, Durham castle tour. Several of these are National trust properties, so a overseas membership will likely be a good investment. • Your accommodation is not included but I can recommend and help you to book. Prices vary by standard but simple rooms are usually available from around £65 per couple per night, with castle accommodation available from £100-£200 per couple per night.
