At the village of Four Mile Bridge, there is an ancient crossing point to the main island of Anglesey. On this tour, we will follow the Anglesey Coastal path along the shoreline, until we cross the Stanley Embankment built in the 1820s, which connects Anglesey with its holy island. Don't miss the chance to enter an enchanted Victorian Forest at Penrhos Coastal Park with its Victorian follies and ruined formal gardens of the once powerful Stanley Family. You will also get the unique opportunity to stroll along the white sands of the private beach where the Stanleys once relaxed. We may be lucky to get a glimpse of rare native Red Squirrels at this forest, which has given sanctuary to them for years. From nature to culture, along the coastline, we'll see architecture from the 19th Century before we enter Holyhead's urban landscape. Significant buildings and memorials will be encountered and discussed culminating at the ancient church of Saint Cybi, set within 4th Century Ruins of a Roman Maritme Fort.
* Meet in Holyhead area, check clothing/footwear, and then travel for 15 mins via Public Transport Bus, approximately 4 miles (6Km) to Four Mile Bridge. * Cross over the 16th Century Causeway to the Anglesey Side with fine panoramic views of Snowdonia. * Hike along the Anglesey Coastal Path to the 19th Century Stanley Embankment and cross over back to the Holy Island. * A Leisurely walk through the Penrhos Coastal Park Victorian Forest, once the stately home of the Stanley Family. * Emerging from the forest, we'll follow the shoreline with further evidence of 19th/20th Century Heritage and make our way into the urban landscape of Holyhead. * An overview of Holyhead's Maritime Heritage on route culminating at St Cybis Church and Roman Fort Complex, one of the finest roman buildings in the United Kingdom -Total approx Distance 5 miles /8Km. * In the event of weather preventing the tour from proceeding, a refund would be provided.
