This is the Avalon of King Arthur; the sacred Christian landscape of Joseph of Arimathea; the Holy Grail. Glastonbury Tor has been a visual and spiritual magnet for centuries. Take a Walk up to see the stunning view of the Land of the Summer People and its mystical geology. Hear the stories of fairy realms, the hanging of a famous Abbot, the Chalice Well, and Avalon. Tour of the site of Glastonbury Abbey, with its unique place in English history. Hear about its direct connection with the life of Christ; as the earliest Christian church in W Europe; as the richest monastery in England; and of course the burial place of King Arthur. Wander through quirky, historic Glastonbury, the town which grew up alongside the Abbey.
The area can be easily explored on foot as a loop incorporating: • Glastonbury Tor c1 to 1:30 hours: Explore the peaceful countryside and mystical sites around the iconic Tor and it's tower. Climb the paved path to the summit c200m (500ft) high and admire the 360-degree view of Avalon and the Somerset Levels. • Glastonbury Abbey c40 minutes: Explore the grounds of the Abbey; learn of it's History and Legend; it's place amongst English culture. Visit King Arthur's grave, the Glastonbury Thorn, the Abbots kitchen, and learn about life it one of England's richest monasteries. There is a guided tour with the entry fee. • Town walk c30 mins: Explore this quirky Somerset working town. Visit some unusual shops (witches anyone?), its historical sites, it's restaurants or cafes or pubs.

This is a walking tour. The town is small and all sites are within easy walking range, including the Tor itself (which is only accessible by foot) The walk up the Tor is steep but paved and short, and most worthwhile. The rise is c.160m (c.500ft)
Airport: ,Cruise: ,ByGuide: St Dunstan's Car Park (Town Hall) is an ideal meet/finish point. It is alongside the entrance to the Abbey. It is by the local bus station (there is no rail) and the start point of the Park and Ride (if required).
