Westminster Abbey was first consecrated in 1065 and London has been my home since 1997. I would love to show you around. As a London Blue Badge Guide I have privileged access to guide you inside the Abbey, part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site (WHS) since 1987. Known as a Royal Peculiar (ask me why) it has been home to coronations from 1066 to King Charles in 2023 and where the funerals of Queen Elizabeth and Princess Diana were held. Not only is the architecture stunning so is the number of memorials and tombs to the great and good, some 3300 in all, and I will take you to the ones that interest you most including Poets' and Scientists' Corners. We will see the Coronation Chair where the king was crowned and the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior. As our Abbey tour concludes there is time for on site retail or cafe therapy before we cross St James’s Park to Buckingham Palace (30 minutes walk) in time for the 3pm Captain’s Inspection and performance by a band of the King's Guards. I can't wait to meet you!
Itinerary: - Dean's Yard Introduction - Coronation Chair - Tomb of Unknown Warrior - Scientists Corner - Newton, Hawking, Darwin - Heart of the Abbey - 3 Queens Tombs - Elizabeth I, Mary I, Mary Queen of Scots - Stunning Henry VII Chapel - Poet's Corner. Chaucer, Shakespeare, Dickens, Kipling, Handel - Abbey Cloisters, cafe & shop - St James Park and Churchill War Rooms - Clarence House - Enjoy the marching bands and rousing sounds outside Buckingham Palace as the King’s Guards perform for you and the monarch!
