Kent is known as the "Garden of England" because of its history as the country's biggest fruit producer. It has been the centre of hop-growing for many centuries, and more recently has become one of the UK's top wine producing counties too, due to its chalky soils and mild climate. Visit the quaint market town of Faversham, home of Britain's oldest brewer, situated in the heart of the Kentish Hop Garden. After a short orientation walking tour, taking in the historic buildings of the marketplace and quayside, you will join a guided tour at Shepherd Neame Brewery. Here you will learn about the beer making process and enjoy a tutored tasting. After a delicious lunch, you will be driven to a local vineyard for a tour of the grape vines, and the opportunity to taste a selection of locally produced wines.
- The tour starts in the historic market town of Faversham, with its picturesque buildings and quaint cobbles. I will take you on a short walking tour with plenty of photo opportunities. - Faversham is located at the heart of the Kentish Hop Garden. It is home to Britain's Oldest Brewer, Shepherd Neame, which has been brewing here since the 17th century. - You will join a guided tour led by one of the brewery team, hearing about the ancient art of brewing and fermentation, and the local ingredients. There will be a tutored tasting of local ales and lagers, and maybe a visit to the shop for a souvenir. - There will be time for a delicious lunch, sampling some local produce in one of the many eating places. - Then you will be driven for around 45 minutes through stunning countryside to a Kentish vineyard. Here you will be guided on a tour around the vines, seeing the various growing stages. - Then you will taste 3 different local wines, and perhaps pick up a bottle or two in the shop.
