London has been my home since 1997 and I would love to show you around. As a London Blue Badge Guide I have privileged access to guide you inside the Churchill War Rooms, a Whitehall basement that was the British government's command center during World War II. Discover the secret rooms and corridors where Winston Churchill and his cabinet made crucial decisions that changed the course of history.
Start your tour at the entrance to the Churchill War Rooms, where you can see the concrete slab that provided protection for the populated basement below. Visit the underground Cabinet Room from which Churchill directed the war and see how Churchill's encrypted SIGSALY telephone hotline to President Roosevelt was hidden behind a locked rest room door. Visit the Churchill Museum and learn about Churchill's life. Born into an aristocratic family at Blenheim Palace hear about Churchill's schooling at Harrow. his army and journalistic adventures in South Africa and India, his early political career then WW2 war leader and Cold War statesman Enjoy the extensive array of "Churchilliana" available for purchase in the large shop and/or relax in the underground cafe just as they would in WW2.
