Thank you for visiting my profile and selecting St Andrews as your destination! For four centuries, St. Andrews was the most important pilgrimage site in all of mediaeval Europe. Rich and poor came together to pay respects to the remains of St. Andrew, one of the apostles of Jesus. This was believed to be the equivalent of seeing the Holy Land and following in the footsteps of Jesus himself. As a result of this, St. Andrews joined the ranks alongside other famous pilgrimage sites like Santiago de Compostela (St. James the Great) and Rome (St. Peter). A recreation of the Medieval Pilgrimage Way was the inspiration for this tour. As, the Fife landscape was changed forever by pilgrims. Even after all this time, many of the historic bridges, roads, and crossing places are still in use. Discover the fascinating medieval history of my nation as you follow the World Heritage Highlights of St. Andrews, which traces the path that has been travelled by numerous pilgrims to Scotland.
The itinerary of this tour is based on the same route that medieval pilgrims followed. Our journey will begin at South Queensferry, a town on the outskirts of Edinburgh that faces the Forth Bridges, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Thanks to Historic Environment Scotland, Dunfermline, Scotland's former royal capital, contains one of the best medieval town-capes that have survived to this day. Located in the far eastern end of the Kingdom of Fife, the East Neuk coastline is one of Scotland's hidden gems that we will visit on our journey to St. Andrews. Unique harbours, charming towns, and world-class beaches are all part of it. Visitors often visit Lower Largo because it is said to be the birthplace of Alexander Selkirk, the actual Robinson Crusoe. On top of that, we will be going to Anstruther next. An old-fashioned fishing town with a harbor right on the shore and a fish bar that has won a number of awards, including 'Best Fish and Chip Shop in the UK'. And last but not least, St Andrews.
