Come with me on the tram to glide down from Edinburgh City Centre to the heart of Leith. An old medieval port dating back to the 12th century and possible Roman origins, which has seen wars, trade, dereliction and rebirth as the coolest neighbourhood in the UK (Sunday Times). Edgy, quirky, quaint, busy and picturesque, Leith is a place to fall in love with. Great pubs like the 16th Century Kings Wark, or two Michelin Star Restaurants (Martin Wishart and Tom Kitchin), with lots of fantastic places to drink and eat while watching the world go by. This is my part of the world for 30 years. Unusual shops, including a Saturday market, and good walk round the old streets and ancient quayside gives you the opportunity to see another side of Edinburgh. Leith was a separate town, but against its will was incorporated into the City of Edinburgh in 1922. Lots of stories about Mary Queen of Scots, John Paul Jones and English naval attacks. And of course the location of the original home of Golf , not St Andrews
- Meet at St Andrew's Square, Edinburgh outside the Royal Bank of Scotland, or at your hotel -Take tram to Leith - Walk round Leith Links to see the origins of the rules of golf, old warehouses, new flats and the new Film Studio (owned by Jason Connery, Sean's son) - Pass Leith Police Station (and try to say "the Leith Police dismisseth us"! -round the back streets of Leith with modern 1960s "banana" flats and 16th century houses -walk along the quayside to the docks - barges, boats, cafes and pubs -Saturday morning market at the old Custom House and old whisky bond warehouses -16th century church with fascinating old graveyard Options to extend tour with visit Lind and Lime gin, or to end at the Royal Yacht Britannia or the brand new Port of Leith Distillery - the first vertical whisky distillery where you can happily spend the rest of your day. Very flexible tour - just let me know your interests.
