The county of Kent boasts one of (if not the) longest and most diverse coastlines in England. Bays and coves, long stretches of chalk, clay, and sandstone cliffs and salt marshes- home to a wide variety of flora and fauna. Sometimes call 'The Invasion Coast' - although our county motto 'Invicta' or 'Unconquered' disputes this ! Kent has a rich Maritime Heritage, fascinating history, seaside resorts with 'boat-to-table' seafood in plenty. This full day tour takes us around the coast from Dover's south east corner on The English Channel to Whitstable on the north Kent coast, bordering the Thames Estuary and the North Sea. I grew up in Dover, and never tire of the sight of the White Cliffs and stunning views towards France. Later I lived many years in Whitstable, famous for its oysters and sunsets which inspired the artist ; JMW Turner. Full of intrigues, colourful characters and hidden gems - I can't wait to share my coastline with you.
• Meet in Dover. Drive to Western Heights (short orientation tour and photo stop - channel views) • Drive along the coast (15 minutes) to the small fishing town of Deal (No stop) • Drive(15 minutes) to Sandwich (short photo/comfort stop on the old quayside - now over 2 miles inland)! • Drive along the coast (15 minutes) to the seaside town of Ramsgate, passing the Royal Harbour ) No stop • Drive (10 minutes) to Broadstairs, - Stop for 2 hours. Brimming with seaside town nostalgia, Broadstairs was Charles Dickens' favourite holiday spot and full of associations with the author. (Short walking tour) • Lunch can be arranged at a seaside hotel • Early afternoon, and we drive (10 minutes) to Margate, along the promenade (No stop) • Drive (10 minutes) through Birchington on Sea (no stop) • Drive (12 minutes) to Herne Bay (No stop) • Drive (10 minutes) to Stop in Whitstable to explore the harbour, fish market, and Harbour Street curiosities.
