This is a wonderfully varied tour that encompasses so much of what Dartmoor is about, including myths and legends, bronze age settlements, beautiful views, country inns, desolate moorland, and cream teas! Carefully selected photo stops and short walks to hidden views not seen from the road leave memorable impressions of some of the most stunning scenery in the United Kingdom! The iconic Dartmoor Ponies will also be seen, I guarantee!

However, I don't want to give too much away as it really is a day to experience in the flesh, with some wonderful added extras. If you are a fan of Hound of the Baskervilles, this is the tour for you! You will hear about the first edition of the book, which my family owns. Indeed, my great-grandfather helped Sir Arthur Conan Doyle when he was planning which locations to use in the book.

Whilst Devon is my home county, and I think the county that offers the most opportunities to the traveller in the whole of the United Kingdom, I can't deny the uniqueness of the counties that surround it. As a result I have visited Cornwall, Dorset and Somerset many times myself for day trips and longer holidays.

In Cornwall we have wonderful coastline, enchanting fishing villages and beautiful gardens of Worldwide renown, as well as, of course, the Eden Project. In Dorset we have the Jurassic Coast with its extraordinary geology and wealth of fossils, as well as incredible natural beauty and unspoilt towns. In Somerset we have the ancient Roman spa town of Bath, the magnificent Wells Cathedral, and one of my favourite places, Glastonbury, which has a truly unique feel.

Using my local knowledge of the area, my knowledge of how to access relevant information locally and off the net, and my experience in extensively researching my own genealogy, I can put together a great day out where we visit the area in Devon that your family came from. We can visit the beautiful countryside, towns and villages of your forebears, and go inside the churches that they once attended services in. Possibly we can find their headstones, and go to lunch in the pub they once ate in. Half a day on Dartmoor, the other half at the coast. Explore Dartmoor National Park in the morning, or afternoon and
visit the South Devon Coast in the other (logistics to suit).
Ancient neolithic sites, standing stones, stone circles and hut circle ruins can be found all over the landscape.
Dramatic wind swept tors and craggy outcrops provide sweeping perspectives over picture postcard vistas. Quaint moorland villages, farmsteads that date back to Medieval times and Stannary towns with tin mining history provide a glimpse into the old ways of life on Dartmoor.
A classic Inn for a hearty lunch, then onto the coast for tales of Pirates, seafarers and fisherman in places such as
Brixham and Dartmouth then onto Start Bay with its WW2 history.
Or, maybe a stroll along the promenade in Torquay where one Agatha Christie once roller skated or a visit to an old thatched village.
Alternatively, by heading west from Dartmoor we visit the ocean city of Plymouth where the Pilgrim Fathers set sail for the new lands.

Devon - Moors & Coast

This tour offers you a fabulous day out, following as it does in Agatha Christie's footsteps. It includes many locations from Agatha's childhood, such as the beaches of Torquay, where she spent a great deal of her spare time, and locations from her early adulthood, including the pier, the Pavilion, and several other places. Later in the day, a visit to Greenway is in order, Agatha's beautiful holiday home, and naturally the day ends with a traditional Devonshire cream tea!

During the day, you will see locations that Agatha used in her stories, and hear more about the fictional characters that frequented these places. You can try a Miss Marple cocktail if you so wish, and I'll be taking plenty of photos for you that I will send to you afterward.

The Agatha Christie full day Tour

This exciting tour introduces the intriguing story behind The Hound of the Baskervilles, including the people, places and legends that inspired Sir Arthur Conan Doyle to write his first Sherlock novel in nearly 10 years, and not just any novel, but arguably his most highly acclaimed. Many wonderful locations are included, from tranquil village graveyards to previously burned down churches with black magic associations, and Bronze Age villages to evocative Moorland mires.

The tour will leave you well educated about how this story came about, and it is delivered by a descendant of one of the people involved in the creation of the plot, making it completely unique. Hear about the evil Squire Cabell and his pack of hounds, the coach driver whose name is now etched into fictional folklore, and see the 200 year old prison that Seldon escaped from.

Guests will come away stimulated, intrigued and wanting to read the famous book once again. And free gifts await those that venture on this incredible tour!
