Explore the intertwined history of Belfast and North America, spanning centuries from the 1700s to the present day. On this tour, I'll show you where the iconic Titanic was built and where Ulster Scots boarded boats for the New World. I'll also tell you about how the American revolution inspired the United Irishmen rebellion in 1798 and how the cotton industry in Belfast was affected by the American Civil war. We'll discuss American investment in Belfast, from the infamous DeLorean Sportscar production to the success of Citibank operations. We'll be walking in the footsteps of General Eisenhower at City Hall as he addressed the US Servicemen who were here during the Second World War. We'll also visit the Falls Road, where trouble erupted in the 1960s, plus Queens University, to see the recently unveiled tribute to Senator George Mitchell who represented Bill Clinton and chaired all party talks which finally led to peace In 1989. The tour can be customized and adapted to between 2 & 3 hours as you wish.
·We'll start the tour at the front gates of the impressive City Hall. ·We'll then walk through the city centre and visit Belfast's oldest place of worship, the First Presbyterian Church, plus see the new Frederick Douglass statue close by. ·Afterwards, we'll pass by the historic Assembly Rooms and the the oldest part of town, Waring Street. ·Later, we'll move on to Custom House Square and McHugh's Bar. ·Next, we'll stand besides the iconic Big Fish and look across the Lagan to the Titanic Quarter as we take in the views of Belfast Lough. ·We'll then turn back to the city centre, passing by Belfast Courthouse, St Georges Market and through the commercial centre of town. ·After that, we'll go West and walk up the Falls Road, talking in the international murals and the Peace Wall before finishing our tour.
