The archaeological tour of Ephesus was created by focusing on the valuable ruins of the open-air museum of Ephesus. The excavation of the ancient city of Ephesus was carried out in 1895 by archeologist Otto Benndorf in 4 different sections, the acropolis, the religious center (Domitian Square), the agora (social center), and the harbour street (Arcadiane street). The name of the city comes from the Hellenized form of "Apasa" which means "Queen Bee" in 14 C BC in Hittite terminology. The foundation story of Ephesus showed that Androclus, the son of the Athenian King, established the city in 1000 BC. It is known that the city has been relocated 4 times due to the periodical silting activities of the Meander River along the Aegean Coast. The open-air museum, which is visited today, was founded as the 3rd Ephesus in 294 BC by Lysimachos. Then it became social, political, artistic, and commercial capital during the Hellenistic, Roman, and Byzantine times in Asia Minor. The itinerary is flexible.
We start our tour by meeting at the port of Kusadasi early in the morning. Afterward, we walk outside the port to meet our driver and our air-conditioned vehicle and drive to the ancient city of Ephesus. Then we start our round trip by giving information about the town of Kusadasi and showing archeological details located on the way to Ephesus. The distance between Kusadasi port and the ancient city of Ephesus, located in Selçuk Town, is 15 miles (30 minutes). Visiting Ephesus is carried out by comfortable walking between two separate gates, the entrance from the Acropolis and the exit from Harbor Street. The Terrace Houses is located on Curetes street and it is in private museum status. This special museum was covered in 1999 by a tent for protecting the valuable findings of 7 private houses from the risk of damage caused by humidity. According to archaeological findings, the terrace houses were used by Royal families between 3rd C BC and 7C AD. The Temple of Artemis is one of the 7 wonders of antiquity.
