Zürich is Switzerland's "kleintropolis". That is what Max Frisch, a native author and architect, called this place: a small metropolis. Even though the city has grown substantially since Max's time, the description still fits! Come discover this cosmopolitan city filled with culture and history! Our walk begins at the edge of the old town. I'll lead you along the cobblestone streets and show you where the Romans and Carolingians settled. We will explore both the Niederdorf and the Bahnhofstrasse side of the Limmat River. You will see architecture from the medieval to the modern. In addition to the the guild houses, chocolate shops and churches you will notice there are a lot of fountains. Zürich started creating fountains in the Middle Ages to provide residents with water and never seemed to stop. We'll see and talk about them before ending the tour near Paradeplatz and Lake Zurich
The possibilities include: Zürich Hauptbahnhof (train station) Swiss Landesmuseum Bahnhofstrasse Urania Tower Lindenhof St. Peter's Church Roman Ruins Rathaus (City Hall) Guildhalls New Market Square Haus zum Recht Former home of Vladimir Lenin Cabaret Voltaire (birthplace of Dadaism) Paradeplatz Grossmünster Church Sprüngli Chocolate Shop Lindt Chocolate Shop FrauMünster Church and Cloister Winston Churchill Plaque Niederdorf Renweg Opera House Lake Zurich The tour includes stories, facts, and legends like: • Where Zurich's wealth has come from for the last 2, 000 from a Roman toll station to private banking • Why Switzerland waited centuries to become a federal Republic • Two brothers have different paths to success in the chocolate industry If you like we can skip some of the above sites and take a ride on the Polybahn to get an exceptional view of Zurich. Each tour is unique, some tours depending upon the pace may not cover all the sites listed in the itinerary
