Set in the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Jungfrau Region, Obersteinberg is a destination away from the crowds. With breathtaking scenery including alpine peaks, hanging glaciers and spectacular waterfalls, the hike takes you to almost the end of the Lauterbrunnen valley. Follow in the footsteps of Tolkein and other great writers to undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Meet in Interlaken and purchase transport tickets. Board the regional train to Lauterbrunnen. The twenty minute journey follows the gorge formed by glaciers and the glacial meltwater of the Weisse Lutschine river with dramatic vertical rock walls. From Lauterbrunnen we will catch a bus to Stechelberg through the dramatic glacial "U" shaped valley. From Stechelberg we will climb up the steep end of the valley to Obersteinberg for lunch. Our route has panoramic views of the iconic trio of mountains - Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau and takes about three hours. Our return to the valley floor takes approximately two hours. Return to Interlaken Ost station in approximately one hour. Alternatively I can pick up and drop off by car to drive to the Lauterbrunnen valley.

We will use public transport to and from Stechelberg (the start and end of the hike). As an alternative, I can offer you pick-up and transport to/from the Lauterbrunnen valley by car. This service will be at extra cost - please enquire. The car is an air-conditioned Subaru Legacy, 10 years old in excellent condition.
