I invite you for a picturesque walk through Lavaux, the Switzerland's largest contiguous vineyard area with almost one thousand-year history. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, Lavaux wine region is famous for its unique landscape, long traditions and absolutely stunning views!

Stretched on 32 km. between Lausanne and Montreux, this region is the most instagrammable location on the Lake Geneve shore.

Apart from enjoying the atmosphere and the scenery, you will learn the history of the region, the varieties of grapes that are grown here, the local wine’s characteristics and why only around 1% of Swiss wine is exported.

And for a complete immersion in the Lavaux charm you will visit the local winery for a wine tasting!

Half day Montreux architectural walking tour

If you are interested in architecture, Montreux certainly has a lot to offer.

The variety of styles, from Belle Epoque grandeur, to the decorative Art Nouveau features, on buildings constructed in the early 20th century when the town was a tourist hot spot.

We will also visit two villages - vieux (old) Montreux and Veytaux - perched up on the hills, with their cobbled streets, fountains, traditional farm buildings, and hidden paths. Montreux has a plethora of different styles of architecture to discover.

These are best viewed as part of a walking tour during which you will be encouraged to look up to see all the interesting architectural features which often go unnoticed.

From Belle Epoque palaces to old villages

Vevey, a picturesque town on the shores of Lake Geneva, is famously home to Nestlé's global headquarters. The company’s founder, Henri Nestlé, revolutionized baby food in the 19th century by creating a milk-based infant formula. His partner, Daniel Peter,  used Nestlé innovative product and made history himself by inventing milk chocolate we all love nowdays. 

The town is also closely associated with Charlie Chaplin, who spent his final 25 years at Manoir de Ban, a beautiful estate overlooking Lake Geneva, where he enjoyed the tranquility and breathtaking scenery.  Today, his legacy in Vevey is celebrated at Chaplin's World, a museum dedicated to his life and work, offering visitors a glimpse into his personal and professional life. 
Vevey celebrates its deep wine-making traditions with the Fête des Vignerons, a once-in-a-generation festival honoring the local vineyards, a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Gruyère has an amazing concentration of medieval architecture. With that, there is no feeling of a lifeless museum, on the contrary, you’ll find yourself in a real ancient Switzerland with it’s ringing cow bells, green meadows and.. the smell of aromatic cheese around!

What to expect:

•	Nice walk through the medieval town and around the 13th century Gruyere Castle with charming views, which you may visit by wish. 
•	Gruyère cheese factory visit. Here you will get to know how the process of producing the famous Gruyère cheese is look like and will taste 3 pieces of different varieties of local cheese. 
•	Giger's Bar, designed by the famous designer Hans Giger, the creator of the images for the movie “Aliens”. 
•	Lunch (optional). For a total immersion in this Swiss cheese paradise, I'll book a table in one of the local restaurants to let you try the famous fondue.

Come on a private tour into the spectacular Unesco World Heritage site of the Lavaux vineyards, stretching out over 830 hectares. Learn all about and taste some of our Swiss wines, (one of our best kept secrets!)which were first planted by the Romans in the 2nd century.
If the weather permits, we can take a walk into the vineyards before visiting the Vinorama museum where a short film shows us the typical year of a local wine-maker and explains about our local speciality grape variety: chasselas. A light, lime-blossomed, mineral flavoured variety that we drink as an aperitif wine, with fresh fish from the lake or with local cheese dishes. We only export 1% of our production so you must taste our wines during your stay!

Montreux and the Swiss Riviera have inspired many writers who have either passed through or lived here, from Rousseau, Tolstoy, to Byron, Nabokov and Hemingway.

Its musical influence is equally important with composers such as Stravinski, Tchaikovsly and more recently David Bowie and of course Freddie Mercury, not forgetting Deep Purple and their famous song "Smoke on the Water".

Montreux still celebrates its musical background annually with the Montreux Jazz Festival which is in its 53rd year and the Septembre Musical, a week of classical concerts that attracts orchestras from around the world.

The best time to do this tour would be in the morning during the jazz festival from July 3 to July 18, 2020.

Private Montreux City Tour

Discover an unexpected walks in a beautiful gorge above Montreux.

We will start by visiting the old town of Montreux and walk up to through the gorge to Glion, maybe have a break in the historic Hotel Victoria a former palace, still decorated in a somewhat colonial style, with stunning views over the lake. We will continue downhill towards Montreux or the village of Veytaux, depending on the time and weather. Then the walk will take you along the lake past buildings of interest to the centre of Montreux, the market place and possibly a couple of the Belle Epoque hotels. I'll explain Montreux's musical legacy and general history.

A certain level of fitness is required as the walk has some steep uphill parts. Hiking boots necessary. If the weather is wet or the conditions too slippery due to previous rainfall, we will do some of this walk on tarmac, taking in the same places.

After our walking tour of Lausanne, we will continue along to the end of the lake to discover the cosmopolitan town of Geneva, full of history and a paradise for shoppers, as well as headquarters to over 200 international organisations including the United Nations, Red Cross and World Health Organisation. Our walking tour will take us from the renowned water fountain, via the luxury shopping area up to the Cathedral in the old town and the Reformation wall in the Bastion Park. Visiting the famous Patek Philippe watch museum or the Red Cross are optional possibilities, entrance fees are not included. Lunch can be arranged according to your wishes, (not included).

Visit Vevey, the old Roman town of Vibiscum, with the biggest market place in Europe and home to Charlie Chaplin, Swiss chocolate and Nestlé, during a private tour.
We will take a local electric bus (15 min) or train ride (6 min) from Montreux along the lake side to discover this pretty, cultural town, the cobbled pedestrian streets and the lakeside promenade.
Vevey is host to the famous Wine Grower's Festival, which only takes place every 20 to 25 years, and has a colourful local market on Tuesday and Saturday.
We will return again to Montreux by bus or train.
