As a History Major, it is a privilege for me to go to the Alhambra and still be able to read the poems and inscriptions the Nasrids left imprinted on the walls of this palace, which I'll share and discuss with you on this tour.

Come on a day trip from Seville to visit not only Alhambra, but also Granada and the Moorish area of Albayzin. In two hills, just separated by the Darro river, which are part of the islamic past and present of Granada.

Keeping the beauty of the narrow streets and the life of a central street market, Albayzin have always been one of the most vivid areas of the city of the sultans.

Since 2011 in the middle of the old section of La Encarnación stands a mushroom-like structure, the "Metropol Parasol". It is popularly known as "Las Setas" (the Mushrooms in Spanish) because of its organic shape. Inside a food market , vegetables, fruit, Iberian ham and fish stalls offer us a colorful experience that will allow us to learn about the rich local gastronomy.
On the roof a footbridge, from which the city displays itself in an amazing 360º view. Quite an experience to see the whole city at your feet.
The "Dueñas Palace", is the house of the powerful, aristocratic Alba family in Seville, a 15th-century palace in Renaissance Style but with an Islamic touch.
The late Duchess of Alba, Cayetana, quite a peculiar lady, with a very interesting life loved this house.
I like the feeling of peeking in the personal life of the nobility.
The bussy shopping district where "Las Setas" and the Palace are located is perfect for a stroll on your own after the tour.

The Pontius Pilate House and Countess of Lebrija Palace

After the Discovery of America, Seville controls the trading monopoly with the New World for two Centuries. The City was then home for many wealthy and aristocratic families.

As a beatiful example of this glorius past we have today the Pontius Pilate House (aren't you curious about the name?). Still in the hands of the same family, is a unique combination of Mudejar and Renaisans Stiles, its walls cover with a collection of ceramic panels from the XVIth Century and the patio decorated with Roman Sculptures. Since the 1960s has been a filming location for different movies, such as "Lawrence of Arabia" "The Kingdom of Heaven " and "Knight and Day".

We walk for around 30 minutes to go to the Lebrija Palace. In this case the house of the Countess of Lebrija, a very interesting Noble Lady of the XIXth Century. She spent a fortune in excavating mosaics in Italica, the home city of the Roman Emperors Trajan and Adrian, about 3 miles away from Seville. This palace is consider to be the best paved palace in Europe

Would you like to breath how nobility families used to live at?

The Alba built between the 15th and 16th centuries, Las Dueñas was named after the currently dissapeared monastery of Santa María de las Dueñas, placed in the adjoining plot and demolished in 1868. Its Origin was the Place-house of the Pineda, lords of Casa Bermeja, one of the dynasties of the patricians of Sevilla.

The Medinaceli family palace dates from the last quarter of the 15th century and springs from the union of the Enríquez and Ribera families. As a result of their most conspicuous members' intense relationship with Italy, throughout the 16th century it underwent deep transformations and became the filter through which the new Renaissance forms and tastes were introduced into Seville.

Although Lebrija Palace dates from the 16th century, it only really came to life in 1901, when Doña Regla Manjón Mergelina, the Countess of Lebrija, bought it and restored, we can find here unique mosaics from roman times dating 1st c. Don't miss it!
