Hidden Island Treasures: Caves & Coves - Mallorca Shore Excursion

Mallorca's eastern coastal landscape stands out for its wide assortment of charming coves, with rugged cliffs and crystal-clear turquoise waters reflecting the scenery. If this were not enough, our senses would travel back to the Miocene. Over a couple hundred limestone cave systems are scattered around the island, but only a few can be safely visited. Some of them are very peculiar, resulting from millions and millions of years of rainwater erosion. On this tour, we will visit the Hams Caves, probably the most amazing karstic show on the island. The Hams caves get their name from their uniquely shaped arborescent mineral formations that resemble groups of "Hams", the word for fishhooks or harpoons in the local language. They often get shadowed by the close, most popular Drach Caves, and visitors often miss this majestic Mother Nature art exhibition. Discovered by chance back in 1905, the caves were promptly conditioned, being the first ones on the island to install electricity and open to the public.
