Join this Californian on an unforgettable journey to Petra, the birthplace of Junípero Serra, the famed Franciscan missionary who played a key role in California’s early history. Also referred to as the "Father of California Wine," we'll explore Serra’s humble beginnings and legacy shaping the missions along the California coast. In this six-hour journey, we will trace Junipero Serra's steps from his beginnings in an agricultural village in the center of Mallorca to establishing missions that later became some of the most important cities in the United States. Cultural explorers will love walking through the historic streets of Petra and visiting his boyhood home and the Junipero Serra Museum to gain a deeper understanding of the man behind the mission system. - After a meet-up in Palma, we'll start with a short walk to the Basilica of Saint Francis, where Junípero Serra was formed and where he taught. - In Petra, we'll walk the cobblestone streets and visit his boyhood home. - In the Museum, we'll discover the extent of the mission system, which extended from Mexico to Northern California. - From Bonany Sanctuary, we'll get a birds-eye view of Petra and the rural countryside. - The order of sites mentioned in this itinerary may change due to the scheduled meet-up time. Other activities can be added, such as a stop for lunch or winetasting.
