This Private tour is for a group of 3. It is a full day tour of Soweto township that begins by browsing the city of Johannesburg, the largest man-made jungle in the world, and also the largest city not built on a river, harbour, or situated on a lake.
We then proceed to the Apartheid Museum which is our first stop. Nothing captures the dark Apartheid years better than the Apartheid Museum. From here, we drive to Soweto and enter using the Military entrance named so because of a military base across the road, used to monitor the movement of Soweto residents during the Apartheid era.

On our way, we will come across the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, which was once the largest in the world and now the largest in Africa and the Southern Hemisphere. You get to learn about its history and also why it was an important venue for the British Royal family including the young Queen Elizabeth to visit in 1947.
We visit a squatter camp, a shanty town without electricity and plumbing.

The Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site tour from Johannesburg.

Sterkfontein Caves (PRESENTLY CLOSED) and the surrounding area is one of the richest sites for fossil hominids in the world. Walk down into these caves and see why the fossils here are so intact and how they got here. The ongoing excavations in this cave yielded 'Mrs. Ples' in 1947, and 'Little Foot' in 1998, both Australopithecus africanus. Nearby, a whole new species, Australopithecus sediba, was discovered in 2010 and Homo naledi in 2015. The walk around the site has vantage points showing the location of other caves in the Cradle.

Malapa Museum offers a wonderful overview of the environment leading to the fossils and the discovery of Australopithecus sediba at Malapa.

Maropeng visitor centre explains the forces shaping the earth and evolution and has a display of fossils. The walk outside has beautiful views across the Cradle.
