During the peak whale watching season (June to end November) is when the southern right whales migrate to the coastal waters of Hermanus to mate, calve, and nurse their young. Visitors can witness these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat, breaching, spouting, and tail-slapping. The whales can be seen from the cliff tops of Walker Bay or boat-based watching. Whether you visit in or out of season, for any intrepid traveler or appreciator of nature's wonders, Hermanus is the ideal location for an unforgettable experience. Join me for a whale of a time! - Pick up from your doorstep and we drive the scenic Clarence Drive along the coast of False Bay scanning the ocean for whales and dolphins. - We pass through various quaint seaside towns including Betty’s Bay, home to a land based African Penguin colony at Stony Point (optional extra). - Arriving in Hermanus we stop at the old harbor and look out for whales from Gearings Point and stroll along the cliff paths of Walker Bay, while viewing the outdoor sculptures. Rest at any of the benches to take in the spectacular ocean views. - Wander through the local craft market for a chance to purchase arts, crafts or clothing. - Whale watching boat operators departing from the new harbor offer trips (1½ to 2 hours) to experience the whales up close (optional extra). - Enjoy lunch at a restaurant overlooking the ocean while looking out for whales. - The route back towards Cape Town takes us over the spectacular Hottentots Holland Mountain range offering breath taking views. - We return to your hotel.
