Baptism at Savica waterfall is one of the best epic-lyric poems written by our most famous romantic poet France Prešeren. It is a narration of hero Črtomir and girl Živa, who he loves in the times of violent Christianisation of predecessor of Slovenes. This is also one of the favourite poems of my mother and my name should be Črt, after the hero in the poem. But then she realized, that pronouncing Črt for non Slovenian speakers might be a difficult task. :-) How do you pronounce Črt? I would love to hear it. Poem is set in beautiful countryside between lakes Bled & Bohinj, which we will visit, also through the eyes of Pagans & Christians. On this tour I will take you to both lakes, that are for many Slovenians considered "sacred", maybe for its history, but for sure because of its beauty. On this tour we will admire 2 of the best 5 (easily accessible views) in Slovenia and enjoy in Alpine discovery of the lakeside area.
- start from Ljubljana - 1, 5 hrs drive to Lake Bohinj - 30 minutes along the lake at church of St. John the Baptist - 10 min drive to cable car to mt. Vogel (cable car runs every 30 minutes) - 1 hour on the mountain, enjoy the views and time for a walk or coffee - 10 minute drive towards Savica waterfall - 1, 5 hours for a hike to the waterfall and back* - 30 minutes to Lake Bled with possible stop for lunch on the way - 1 hour for Bled island with church - drive to Bled castle and 1 hour for Bled castle - some free time along the lake - 45 minutes back to Ljubljana * note that hike takes 30-45 minutes and has 500 stairs to climb The itinerary can be adapted to traveller's interests: do not hesitate to contact me for a customized tour.
