A day with UNESCO heritage architect Jože Plečnik - private walking tour

Ljubljana's architecture is very interesting. You could say a bit Italian, Venitian, a bit of Austrian, like Vienna or Salzburg. However, there is also something very unique: UNESCO architect Jože (Joseph) Plečnik.

He was born over 150 years ago in Ljubljana in my parish of St John the Baptist. He was a misterious, not so well understood person. He had to leave high school in Ljubljana, had to work at his father's workshop, however, with a help of his brother started a brilliant study career and became one of the most famous architects of his period. On our tour, we are going to admire some of his most notable works like Food Market, Three Bridges, National& University Library, Ljubljanica River Banks, Cobbler's Bridge, Open air theatre Križanke. . .

 Next to that, we will go off the beaten path: to my parish to uncover some hidden treasures that Plečnik loved so much- that was his home as well. Thanks to his talent, Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia became one of the most charming cities in the world

The last month of the year can be very cold in Ljubljana, however, on the other hand in that month Ljubljana shows its most romantic appearance. The daylight in our city is getting shorter and shorter. We locals hardly wait for the festive lights to be switched on.

We like to meet our friend for a glass of Mulled wine and we like to do Christmas shopping at the Christmas market along the river. Numerous local artisants are happy to have a chance to present their work done during the year.

The walk should not be long (it could be pretty cold): our time together we can enrich with a boat ride or with a visit of our National Museum that is a home of the oldest music instrument in the world: the flute that is 60 000 years old.

We shall finish the tour with a glass of mulled vine or a cup of tea or coffee at one of the stands along the river.
