I compressed here about 70% of the essential places to visit in Romania. It is a proper ride, but if time is of the essence, buckle-up and enjoy! I will bring my guitar. . . :D From Dracula's Castle to the medieval citadels of Brasov, Sighisoara, Alba Iulia and Sibiu, everything is raw history. We had our Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones in Romania. . . but for real. The fortified churches and old hidden villages don't need any make-up - they are the real deal. The modern Disney-like Peles Castle, the futuristic salt mine from Turda and the 2 highest roads in Romania, the Transalpina and the Transfagarasan Highways (!!! accessible only between July and October !!!) will take you through and over the clouds. Prepare to touch the "heart of Romania" and fall in love with it ! Attention: Outside the July-October season, when the Transalpina and Transfagarasan highways are closed, we will use secondary routes where we can see a bear crossing the street in front of us (or at least a fox. . . ) :)
1st day: Bucharest - Sinaia (the Peles Castle) - Bran (Dracula's Castle) - Brasov Medieval City (with its Black Church and Black Tower) - Sighisoara Citadel (where we have Dracula's presumed birth place) 2nd day: Biertan (a classic fortified church) - Turda (the futuristic salt mine) - Alba Iulia City (the heart of Romania's Unity) - Hunedoara City (the fantastic Corvin Castle) 3rd day: Transalpina Highway (highest road in Romania) - Horezu (where we can see how it's made and buy traditional pottery) - Sibiu City (Europe's Cultural Capital in 2007) 4th day: Transfagarasan Highway (best driving road in the World) - Curtea de Arges (the Arges Monastery) Bucharest Each day starts around 8:00 AM and finishes around 8:00 PM. We can also start on Mondays from the end of June - end of October, but only if we do everything the other way around. The Peles Castle is closed every Monday. I would avoid starting/finishing during weekends because those periods are the most crowded on the mountain roads and at the museums
