During this tour I will show you places where Jews, who before WWII made 30% of the whole population of Warsaw, lived and perished during the Holocaust. You can still see preserved remnants of former ghetto walls, installation showing the bridge connecting small and big ghetto, monuments to Warsaw ghetto heroes, Umschlagplatz, from which Warsaw Jews were deported to Treblinka extermination camp in 1942, still functioning Jewish cemetery and Nozyk synagogue, the only one which survived the war. We also see Jewish Historical Institute, prewar Judaistic Library, and "Polin", Museum of the History of Polish Jews. If you want to see and learn more, especially in Prague, the district across the Vistula River, choose my another tour (3382 Jewish Heritage in Warsaw), where we explore Jewish Warsaw for 6 hours. On request (for additional fee) I can guide you in Polin museum showing 1000 years history of Polish Jews. Note: on Saturdays (Sabbath) cemetery is closed, and synagogue opened only for prayers
- We start from visiting remnants of ghetto walls, still preserved in one of the courtyards. - Drive to former ghetto area to see the monument to heroes of Warsaw ghetto, very impressive edifice of the Museum of the History of Polish Jews, then we walk along the Memory Lane to Umschlagplatz memorial marking the station from which Jews were deported to death camp. Stop near Mila 18, with the mound marking the bunker where leader of uprising in Warsaw ghetto, Anielewicz, was hidden and then died. - Drive to the installation of the bridge linking small with big ghetto. - Drive to still functioning Jewish cemetery which shows the history of Warsaw Jews. - Drive to Nozyk synagogue, the only one which survived WWII. - See monument to Janusz Korczak (educator, writer, doctor, manager of orphanage), who did not leave the children in their last way to death camp. - If you want to prolong the tour, we'll end at Museum of History of Polish Jews where you can visit the exhibition, spending there about two hours.
