The Best Christmas Market in Kraków ... (starts in December)

Think about the spirit of theses days. "The Christmas" it sounds like a fairytell. Come to Poland, come to Kraków, to see the Christmas Market on the bigest medieval market square. The Christmast Market has the long traditions. The market always starts on last Friday of November and lasts until December 26.

You can buy a wide range of Christmas products such as hand-painted bubbles and hand made decoration. There are variety of different food you can try on the market. Famous sausages, bigos, sheep smoked cheese and . . mulled wine, called grzaniec.
After walking here and there between stalls a walking tour leads you to the city center to see the St Mary's Church and The Town Hall and many other historical site of Kraków. Everything beautifully decorated and ready for Christmas.

Zalipie is the the most colourful village in Poland! I will show you houses entirely covered with flower pattern. We will also visit the House of Painters and Felicja Curyło's Household. This lady was an outstanding painter and the promoter of this unique folk art. Already during this artist's life, her house was visited by many people and, over the years, it became the most important place for all those interested in folk art. This cottage was preserved in the same form as it was during the painter's life. External walls of buildings in this household are covered with floral ornaments. In the hall, there is an interesting black ceiling with white patterns painted with clay. This technique relates to the oldest painting tradition in Zalipie. The tradition of painting flowers started in the late nineteenth century when women in Zalipie started to cover surfaces dirty from soot with white paint and then, colourful patterns. On the way back we will take a walk around the Renaissance market square in Tarnów.

During this tour you will meet people who lives here. I will bring you to a house of an elderly woman, who will share with you about her passion of decorating house by a floral motifs.

The local tradition of painting houses come from the nineteenth century when women and girls used to paint their cottages. Nowadays this tradition is still alive.

There is a competition each year when The Selection Board chooses the most pretty painted house. In this way people in the village are involved in painting. You may get a chance to be there, then! It is a great inspiration for everyone.

Lady with an Ermaine by Leonardo da Vinci is exhibited in Czartoryski National Museum in Krakow. Museum originally was created in Pulawy - family land of Czartoryski family by Princess Izabela Czartoryska. She was an extraordinary woman. The collection was created one year after when Poland lost independence - in 1796. Her intention was to keep national treasures of Poland. She was a great patriot! The whole collection was moved to Paris and than grandson of Isabela - Wladyslaw, moved the whole collection to Krakow.

The permanent exhibition at the Palace of the Princes Czartoryski Museum displays the most valuable art collection in Poland, and one of the most valuable ones in Europe. The exhibition not only includes masterpieces of world painting such as Leonardo da Vinci's Lady with an Ermine or Rembrandt van Rijn's Landscape with the Good Samaritan, but also works of painting, sculpture, crafts, military or applied arts. It is also an immense collection of souvenirs presenting Poland's history.

Zalipie is a famous village in south-eastern Poland where people paint their cottages in colorful floral motifs. Zalipie with its folk art is a unique place in old polish countryside.
This folk fame derives from a local ornamentation tradition, which got its origins in the nineteenth century when women and girls used to paint their cottages.
Once a year around Corpus Christi church holiday is a competition when they choose the best-painted cottage.

Zalipie is not an open-air museum because people live in their painted houses, as well as post office, church and fire department headquarter are also painted in flower compositions.
In Zalipie you can even meet dog's sheds and fences with floral paintings.
