Join me on a full-day walking tour of the forests and lakes just outside the city of Trondheim, where the bustling city feels a world away. Our tour will take in a rocky mountaintop, deep pine forests, glittering lakes, and quiet forest paths. Along the way, we’ll explore the history of people in the area – including summer farms, old trading routes, and the more recent afforestation of the entire mountain, as well as more recent use for air defense during The Cold War. This tour is suitable for anyone with good footwear, a love of medium-distance hiking, and a healthy respect for changing weather conditions! We walk around 10km in total, with plenty of breaks!
- We begin by taking a bus to Skistua, west of Trondheim, and walk up Gråkallen – a small mountain offering a beautiful panorama of Trondheimsfjord. - After returning down, we’ll take a short break at a café, with the option to buy a mid-morning coffee and snack to fuel us for the rest of the journey. - We’ll then head down through the forest along tracks and narrow paths before arriving at an old summer farm to learn about the area’s human history. - After a longer walk through forests and open glades, we come to a small forest hut, where there is the opportunity to buy a late lunch or another snack. - We then head uphill again, with more chances for scenic views of the city, before arriving at the charming village of Lian on the edge of the forest – the final stop for the world’s most northerly tram line, which takes us all the way back to the city centre. - After a fantastic adventure, you’ll no doubt be ready to rest your feet or enjoy a well-earned dinner in town.
