Rio Lagartos - bird's paradise

Yes, I know. Everyone goes to Celestun to see the pink flamingoes and swim at the natural spring. However, have you heard of Rio Lagartos Biosphere? This place is located around 2hrs and 15minutes northeast from Merida and I consider it a hidden gem of Yucatan´s eco-tourism. No crowds, no hurry tours (Celestun is only 1 hour 15min usually). Just me, you and the local friends of mine who are born fisher-men and know the biosphere perfectly. The tour can last 2 hours (even 3) and we may also appreciate the pink flamingoes, crocodiles, pelicans, mangroves, pink salt beds and vast pristine beaches of the North coast! So, if you are not in a hurry, after the boat tour, we can simply sit down at the pier and have a small cooking class preparing a ceviche according to the local traditions and flavors :-) If we there are not many flamingoes that day, we can enrich our day going to the "Las Coloradas" or "Pink Lagoons" which are nearby.
