To understand the Mayan culture, its migratory processes and relationship with other city states, you truly must visit Chichen Itza, on the northern half of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula (local time in Yucactan, one hour less than Quintana Roo where Cancun is located. ) It is important that you take your time to enjoy everything you can see, especially the site's ancient structures. That's why I designed this day trip to give you enough time to visit the area, without rushing you. More over, we'll go beyond the ancient Mayan ruins to see a wonderful real side of the Riviera Maya. In addition to seeing one of the most famous archaeological sites in Mexico, you'll also get a chance to enjoy a lunch consisting of regional foods! Besides, you'll get a refreshing dip in a beautiful cenote; and one last visit to discover the beauty and history of Valladolid, a city full of art, restaurants and shops. I personally suggest to start this tour quite early in order to take advantage of the packed day ahead of us!
·We'll begin after meeting at your lodging when I pick you up early in the morning. ·We'll then depart in a two and a half hour drive, during which I'll share the history of the Mayans with you as well as an introduction to Chichén Itzá & its inhabitants. ·On arrival, we'll begin our 3 hour exploration, starting with the main Plaza of the legendary city. ·We'll proceed to come across buildings with religious, ritual, military, sacred & commercial purposes such as: -El Castillo or Templo of Kukulkan -Venus Platform. -The longest ballcourt in Mesoamerica and its fine reliefs. -Temple of the Jaguars. -Platform of the eagles and jaguars. ·After covering this, we'll get to swim in a cenote and enjoy a buffet lunch! ·Next, we'll depart to Valladolid. ·On arrival, we'll walk along the most important avenue, the ancient Avenida de los Frailes. ·Next, we'll see the central square & its church. ·At last, we'll see the former convent of San Bernardino de Sienda from the 16th century. ·We'll then drive back.
