Valletta is a fortified city of the Renaissance build on a peninsula surrounded by two natural harbours. It is Malta's capital city, a masterpiece of the baroque, a world heritage site. Within the fortified walls of the capital one finds some of Europe's finest art works, churches, palaces as well picturesque gardens providing stunning views over Valletta harbours.

Mdina, known locally as the Silent city, is a UNESCO heritage site, a superb fortified town teeming with medieval buildings as well as the stately homes of noble Maltese families. The view from its walls is magnificent, domininating over two thirds of the island.

This tour will take you around the island of Malta, where we will not only visit the Capital City Valletta, but also the Silent City of Mdina, visit Hagar Qim megalithic temples, and the south of the island.

Starting off from the capital city Valletta, we will stroll the streets, admiring churches, squares and palaces, with a recommended entrance of St. John's Cathedral before proceeding towards Mdina, the little gem where various movies where shot. A small walk within the city and optional pastizzi tasting (local speciality) will bring our morning to an end.
We will then continue our visit to Hagar Qim Temples, Unesco site, that testifies Malta's prehistoric past and Marsaxlokk, an idyllic fishing village where you will have free time to indulge in a delicious fish lunch or enjoy the small souvenir market along the quay.
A photo stop at Blue Grotto and boat ride, may be included, time permitting.

Starting from the magnificent view of the Grand Harbour from the Upper Barrakka gardens, we will walk around the city, stopping near the majestic palaces and churches (we can visit some of them) and I will tell you the history of the Order of the Hospitaliers - it was the knights of this Order who built today's capital of Malta. Let's try to go back several hundred years and we will try to imagine, how knights and their faithful squires walked along these streets and squares and beautiful ladies rode in carriages.

The tour of Valletta will not be complete without a visit to St. John's Co-Cathedral with its famous rich décor and one of Caravaggio's last works - "Beheading of St. John".

Valletta has been Malta's new de facto capital city since its inception in the 1560s. It is primarily the legacy of the Knights Hospitaller with a few later buildings, some of which still bear scars of WWll.

Valletta is one kilometre long with streets intersecting in a grid pattern. The upper part contains most of the shops, museums and administrative buildings, while the lower third is almost all residential. Maltese architecture is a mixture of styles, the earliest being austere while the Baroque buildings exude pomp and beauty.

At the end of the tour, you may stay on shopping or for solo sightseeing in the City and make your own way to the ship.

Site entrances are not included and some official buildings or churches might close due to official services.

Our tour starts with Valletta, Malta's Capital City, built in 1566, a year after the Great Siege. The city built 'By Gentlemen for Gentlemen' and which is the oldest planned city in Europe being 400 years old. The tour of the city will take us past palaces, auberges and a garden with an amazing view of Malta's Natural Grand Harbour.

Leaving Valletta, we the drive to the south west of Malta for a visit of the Neolthic Temples 'Hagar Qim' dating back to 3300BC. These are the oldest free stone standing temples in the world having the largest Megalith weighing 20 tons.
Our next stop will be M'Xlokk fishing village where we shall stop for lunch, snack and also admire this colourful village.

We then drive to the centre of Malta for a walking tour through the quaint narrow streets of Mdina, the medieval city also known as Citta Vecchia and the Noble City.
