Valletta is the legacy of the Knights Hospitaller with a few later buildings, some of which still bear scars of WWll. Valletta is one kilometre long with streets intersecting in a grid pattern. The upper part contains most of the shops, museums and administrative buildings, while the lower third is almost all residential. Maltese architecture is a mixture of styles, the earliest being austere while the Baroque buildings exude pomp and beauty. At the end of the tour, you may stay on shopping or for solo sightseeing in the City and make your own way to the ship. You may combine the Valletta Tour with the Birgu tour. Site entrances are not included and some official buildings or churches might close due to official services.
The tour starts at 09:00 (or earlier if you can make it) and head straight up to Valletta. We visit the Upper Barrakka Gardens, walk to the former Church of the Knights Hospitaller (definitely worth visiting - entrance extra. NOTE:Closed on Sundays) and on to Palace Square. We have time to add another museum such as as Casa Rocca Piccola, the War or Archaeology Museums or he former The Grand Master's Palace / Knights' Armoury.
Contact your local guide to know more!!
The entire tour will be on foot. There is elevator from the port to the top of the city walls.
