It's hard to imagine that an island the size of Malta has so much history and has been so involved,...

The islands are scattered with numerous prehistoric temple remains. Ħaġar Qim and Mnajdra are one such complex, built with massive limestone blocks. One temple at Mnajdra was precisely built to mark the sun rise on the first day of each season. Was it necessary to have so many temples on a small island? Who was this almighty deity that the population felt compelled to honour with temples of huge megalithic stones rather than small more practical ones? Or was there an ulterior motive, were the island's inhabitants sending out a message of power and might? Why then, did this culture disappear? The island embraced new cultures in the Bronze Age, with the Phoenicians and were then enveloped in the Roman Empire and subsequently destroyed by the Arabs from North Africa. Building begins again from the 13th century and Mdina is witness to this with its noble homes and churches which were embellished in the Baroque style in the 18th Century. Let's find the answers to our questions!
