Chinese New Year in Malaysia is a significant celebration for the Chinese community, marking the beginning of the lunar new year. In 2025, Chinese New Year falls on January 29 and is celebrated as the Year of the Wood Snake. Open House is a tradition in Malaysia to welcome friends and neighbours, regardless of their ethnic background, fostering a sense of unity and harmony in the community. In the Open House, lots of sumptuous food, titibits and snacks will be served, besides the red lanterns, couplets and red good fortune 'fu'. Elders distribute red envelopes filled with money to younger generations, symbolizing good luck and blessings, accompanied by dragon or lion dances, firecrackers, and song and dance performances of different ethnic groups, adding to the festive mood.
