This tour at the Pate island will provide travellers with an unforgettable experience of Kenyan Swahili villages cultural life, traditional Swahili dishes and the amazing geographical landscape of the beautiful mangrove vegetation. You will enjoy the view of Siyu fort, Shanga ruins, the Nabahani ruins and the ancient Portuguese town of Pate. We will reach the island by boat. ** Some of the sites in the itinerary may be impacted by closures. Please, contact me before booking to discuss alternatives.
The tour begins with a thirty-minute boat ride from Lamu jetty through the Mkanda (channel of Indian ocean) to Mtangawanda jetty on Pate island. A private vehicle will be used from Mtangawanda jetty to Siyu, a historical 13th century village, where the travellers will visit the Siyu fort. From Siyu village we head to a 7th century old village of Shanga. Shanga ruins, tombs and foundation houses will be magnificent for the travellers. We will go to Pate, a 13th century old village, to see the Nabahani ruins, Pate town ancient tombs, old Mosques and the remains of Portuguese houses. Necessary breaks will be made for Swahili snacks, lunch and visiting of the artisans shops. The return journey to Lamu island will begin shortly after the tour of Pate old town.
