Towards the end of the Edo Period (1603-1867), during which Japan maintained a policy of self-isolation, Yokohama's port was one of the first to be opened to foreign trade in 1859. Consequently, Yokohama quickly grew from a small fishing village into one of Japan's major cities. No matter what time of year Sankeien garden will always delight you, different seasons will show you in different ways and you will not go wrong if you come at any time of the year because the charm and beauty that this place is beautiful at all times, even and if it rains. Here's an example of the itinerary. You can tailor it based upon your interests. 1. Meet at the hotel you stay or a station in Yokohama (9:00) 2. Sankeien, spacious Japanese garden（9:45〜11:15） There is a pond, small rivers, flowers and wonderful strolling trails that make you think you are in Kyoto rather than Yokohama. 3. Minatono Mieru Oka Koen "Harbor View Park"（11:45〜12:45） The park has a view onto the water and the Yokohama Bay Bridge with a beautiful rose garden. 4. Chinatown (13:00-14:00) A large number of Chinese stores and restaurants can be found in the narrow and colorful streets of Chinatown. You can enjoy a wide array of Chinese dishes at restaurants or food stands. 5. Minato Mirai 21 "Harbor of the future" (14:30-15:00) Minato Mirai is blessed with a great location along the water and has a wealth of attractions.
