Otaru flourished as a trading port dealing with coal and herring and a port serving Sakhalin's development during the 1920'-1940's. Because of herring fishing, glass-making was a very important industry in Otaru. First you will visit a glassware studio where you can experience blowing glass to make your own glassware. Your original handmade glass will be one of the unforgettable memories of your Otaru trip. After the glass-making experience, you will go to Sakaimachi Street and enjoy strolling freely and taking a look at glass shops, souvenir shops, and many other shops. You can also enjoy a nice seafood restaurant or sushi restaurant. Strolling the Sakaimachi area, a historical site, recalls the city's good old days. Otaru has an abundant clean water supply and a cool climate appropriate for making good sake. After lunch I want to take you to the Tanaka sake brewery to see how sake is brewed.
