Dear tourists! Magome and Tsumago are two traditional and picturesque post towns, connected through the Nakasendō way, one of the five major roads of the Edo period (17th-19th Century) connecting Edo (Tokyo) with the old capital Kyoto. Today, both towns are perfectly preserved like "open-air museums" in the Japanese Alps. They have also a number of wooden craft shops, noodle restaurants, Japanese confectionery shops and historic inns or hatago. I think you could feel dating back to Edo Era, enjoy unique experiences. --For Those Visiting in Winter-- Magome and Tsumago see a lot of snowfall from December through March. When visiting in winter, please dress warmly, waterproofed coats are recommended, as are long boots or warm shoes with grippy soles to avoid slipping on the snow.
