Without visiting the eastern Kyoto, you can't talk about Kyoto, that is what people say. Probably for these areas are so intrigued with the mixed cultures of Zen stoicism and Gion hospitality: Silver pavilion, for example, has a riddle why it is called so, despite no silver being covered. You may read the riddle while enjoying your stroll along the serene Zen garden. Philosopher's path with the pretty water canal will give you unforgettable memories, especially with cherry blossoms in spring, or colorful foliage in autumn. At Nanzenji temple, you may be amazed with the huge wooden gate stood in Zen garden. Higashiyama old town and Gion will welcome you with the hospitality in Kyoto style, especially with people wearing traditional Kimono. At Kiyomizudera temple, you can enjoy a bird eyes view of Kyoto from the famous wooden terrace supported by 139 wooden columns built without nails. Around evening, we wander about Gion, a Geisya district, with their work places and school, trying to see Maiko on the street.
- Meet at your hotel - Subway, bus or taxi to Ke-age station with an optional detour at the historical "Incline site" - Walk to Nanzenji temple: Can enjoy wandering the front garden with the magnificent gate, with option of Zen garden/national treasured pictures inside the temple - Walk to Philosopher's path: Enjoy cherry blossoms in spring or change of color foliage in autumn with short distance walk - Bus or taxi to Silver pavilion: Enjoy wandering at the beautiful moss garden - Lunch with option of local cuisines - Bus or taxi and walk uphill to Kiyomizudera temple: Can enjoy view points over Kyoto city, inside the temple or outside, subject to the schedule - Walk downhill to Higashiyama old town along San-nen-zaka path: Enjoy shopping and/or short stop at coffee shop - Wander around Gion district: around 16:30 you have good chances to see Geisya/Maiko on the street - Back to your hotel or see you off at Gion with my suggestion for restaurants.

In the basic plan, we will take bus, subway, and train to the nearest stops to the sites, and enjoy walking through the sites. Walking distance will be 9km or 6 miles per tour. If you would like light walking with shorter distance, we will take taxis for moving from site to site. On that occasion, the estimated local cash expense will be increased by about 2,000 yen per person from the original 5,500 yen to 7,500 yen.
