Embrace the enchanting beauty of Miyajima during a half-day sightseeing excursion to this picturesque island. Miyajima Island consists mostly of steep, wooded hills, and is ranked as one of the three most scenic spots in the country. Its famous landmark, the huge red Torii Gate, at high tide, rises up out of the water and guards the island's main attraction, the Itsukushima Shrine and Daishoin Buddhist temple. Daishoin Temple is a temple complex that features many statues, buildings, and religious objects. It is one of the most famous temples in Miyajima. It is located where the founder of Shingon Buddhism, Kobo Daishi, first began the practice of Buddhism on Miyajima. Some highlights of the temple include the Reiho-kan Hall, a sand mandala, the Maniden Hall and the Henjokutsu Cave. These are only a handful of the religious sites and objects found across this prestigious temple complex.
