Ohori Park used to be a moat of Fukuoka castle, now loved by local citizens. You'll a lot of local people enjoy running and walking around. Although there is no castle tower remained, stone walls are the original ones. There is a Japanese garden located nearby. Tochoji was originally built in early 9th century by Kukai who established esoteric Buddhism in Japan. You can see a beautiful pagoda, and in the main hall you can see a huge wooden sitting Buddhist statue. You'll also walk a pitch dark path (1-min walk) under the stature with a guide, which is an exciting experience. Kushida shrine is the most popular shrine in Fukuoka, and you can see a decorative float used in a summer festival called "Yamakasa". The area used to be a merchant town. You can also enjoy the atmosphere.
9:00 meeting place 10:00 Ohori Park and a Japanese garden 12:00 Canal city shopping mall for lunch 13:00 Kushida shrine and Merchant area Tochoji temple 15:00 JR Hakata station (end of tour) The itinerary can be changed upon your request!
